Saint Seiya: The Golden Saint Camus and the Aquarius Constellation

The Legend of the Aquarius Constellation
In Greek mythology, the Aquarius constellation has a poignant origin story. Zeus, the king of the gods, and his sister Hera, the goddess of marriage, had a beautiful and kind-hearted daughter named Hebe, the goddess of youth. Hebe was cherished by Zeus, who kept her by his side to serve nectar and ambrosia to the gods, ensuring their eternal youth. Her magical pitcher was said to be bottomless, and the water she poured brought vitality and joy to all who drank it.
A Forbidden Love
As Hebe grew older, Zeus sought a divine husband for her, but she refused all suitors. One day, she secretly descended to Earth and fell in love with a mortal shepherd named Ganymede. When Zeus discovered this, he was furious. He transformed into an eagle, abducted Ganymede, and offered him immortality in exchange for leaving Hebe. When Ganymede refused, Zeus ordered him executed. In a tragic twist, Hebe threw herself in front of the fatal arrow meant for Ganymede, sacrificing her life. Overcome with grief, Zeus immortalized them both in the stars—Hebe as the water-bearing Aquarius and Ganymede as the constellation Aquila, the eagle.
Camus: The Aquarius Gold Saint
In the world of Saint Seiya, Camus embodies the spirit of Aquarius. Born in France, he was chosen by the Sanctuary’s Pope and sent to Siberia for rigorous training. As the inheritor of the Aquarius Gold Cloth, Camus mastered the power of ice and cold, becoming one of the most formidable Gold Saints.
The Ice Master
Camus’s signature techniques, like “Absolute Zero” and “Aurora Execution,” were inspired by the chilling aura of ice itself. With his stoic demeanor and flowing green hair, he epitomizes the cold exterior of Siberia, yet beneath it lies a heart burning with passion and a deep commitment to peace.
Strength and Sacrifice
Camus’s power is legendary. In the Hades Chapter, he froze even the mighty Gold Saints with ease. His most poignant moment came during the Sanctuary arc, where he sealed his beloved disciple Hyoga in the unbreakable “Ice Coffin” to protect him. Later, he sacrificed his life to awaken Hyoga’s Seventh Sense, proving that even the coldest heart can burn with love and dedication.
Legacy of the Aquarius Gold Saint
Though Camus rarely showed emotion, his actions spoke volumes. His unwavering loyalty to the Sanctuary and his selfless mentorship of Hyoga cement his place among the top Gold Saints. If ranked, he stands alongside legends like Saga, Aiolos, and Shaka—a testament to his skill and nobility.
The story of Aquarius—both in myth and in Saint Seiya—reminds us that even the coldest forces in nature can harbor warmth, love, and sacrifice. What do you think of Camus’s legacy? Share your thoughts below!
